What Court Do I Go to?
The Court that tries your case is directly related to the type of crime you are charged with and where you were stopped.
There are three main Agencies that will initiate a traffic stop.
-Prescott Valley Police Department
-Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department
-Arizona Department of Public Safety
They usually utilize a DUI Task force comprised of multiple agencies.
Here is how to find out:
- Look for any papers the officer gave to you
- Once you find the “Traffic Ticket and Complaint” look at the top of the page. It will tell you what agency stopped you.
- At the bottom of the page it will likely list which court the complaint is being submitted to.
- For example, if it was a Yavapai County Sheriff Deputy citing you for a misdemeanor outside city limits, you will likely be going to the Prescott Valley Magistrate
- However, If it was Prescott Police Department citing you for a misdemeanor within city limits, you will likely be going to the Prescott Valley Magistrate
- If you get cited for a Felony, you will be going to the Yavapai County Superior Court
